Cinemark Movie Theaters Welcome Recreational Esports Play
Movie theater company Cinemark Holdings will expand its esports services to include drop-in gaming on the big screen, as well as online league play. Cinemark already offers private theater rentals for gaming parties, and it will now host $10 weekly drop-in play sessions at select U.S. locations for anyone with a Nintendo Switch and a copy of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Mario Kart 8, or Rocket League.
The theater chain has also partnered with Mission Control, a recreational esports platform that allows players to organize leagues for video games such as FIFA, NBA 2K, Call of Duty, and Fortnite. Gamers will be able to join the Cinemark organization on Mission Control’s app to compete in online league play.
Cinemark, which is based in Texas, operates 345 theaters across the U.S. and another 180 locations throughout Latin American and Taiwan.
